Jean Xavier Lefevre (1763-1829) Professor of the Paris Conservatoire, Lefèvre composed various works whose main purpose was educational but nonetheless they are, by virtue of their melodic quality and their inventive charm, excellent concert pieces. Lefèvre recommended to his interpretersto vary their playing in order to avoid boring the listener by repetitive style. The harp became popular during Lefèvre’s life time. An improvisation for the harp is a welcomed addition in order to enrich the harmony of the bass part of these sonatas.
